Dr. Jamal is a general gastroenterologist with additional training and expertise in hepatology. With his team of nurse practitioners and dieticians, Dr. Jamal leads the Liver Clinic which focuses on patients with complicated liver diseases that require more intensive management. This clinic has access to state-of-the-art imaging, interventional radiologists, oncologists, and Hepatobiliary surgeons in order to provide truly comprehensive attention to the patients. The use of FibroScan enhances the Clinic’ accuracy for assessing damage to the liver without liver biopsy.
Another passion of Dr. Jamal is the development of clinical research trials in support of creating new opportunities for patients with specific GI diseases. Some of the Clinic’s recent trials have been for the treatment of patients with low platelets from cirrhosis of the liver.
Dr. Jamal is also an expert in the treatment of Barrett’s Esophagus, a pre-cancerous condition which can lead to esophageal cancer. Dr. Jamal has a passion for teaching students, nurses and physicians. He is focused on providing compassionate care as part of a team of excellent physicians which is what keeps him glued to the St. Jude Heritage family.
