WHAT IS HEPATORENAL SYNDROME (HRS)

WEBINAR:

Feb 16, 2023

5:30pm to 6:30pm PDT

Hepatorenal syndrome (HRS) is a life-threatening medical condition that consists of rapid deterioration in kidney function in individuals with cirrhosis of the liver or sudden liver failure. HRS may be fatal unless a liver transplant is performed, although various treatments, such as dialysis, can prevent advancement of the condition. The only certain way to prevent HRS is to keep your liver healthy.

To reduce your risk of developing cirrhosis, avoid drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, and avoid contracting Hepatitis.

PROGRESSIVE FAMILIAL INTRHEPATIC CHOLESTASIS (PFIC)

WEBINAR:

March 2, 2023

5:30pm to 6:30pm PDT

February is Rare Disease Month (#RareAware). We are dedicating this webinar to Progressive Familial Intrahepatic Cholestasis, or PFIC, which represents a group of rare genetic disorders that cause a progressive liver disease and can lead to fibrosis, cirrhosis, and end-stage liver disease. One of the symptoms of PFIC is the insatiable itching of the skin. The pruritus, or itching, may become so sever that causes skin mutilation, loss of sleep, irritability, and poor attention and impaired performance. PFIC1, PFIC2 and PFIC3 are most common variations of PFIC. In addition, other rare forms of PFIC exist with varying phenotypes, but all present with cholestasis.

In this webinar our expert presenters will provide updated and accurate information about PFIC, symptoms, available treatments, and living with PFIC.

NON ALCOHOLIC FATTY LIVER DISEASE (NAFLD/NASH)

WEBINAR:

JUNE 14, 2023

5:30pm to 6:30pm PDT

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is an umbrella term for a range of liver conditions affecting people who drink little to no alcohol. As the name implies, the main characteristic of NAFLD is too much fat stored in liver cells.

NAFLD is increasingly common around the world, especially in Western nations. In the United States, it is the most common form of chronic liver disease, affecting about one-quarter of the population.

Some individuals with NAFLD can develop nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), an aggressive form of fatty liver disease, which is marked by liver inflammation and may progress to advanced scarring (cirrhosis) and liver failure. This damage is similar to the damage caused by heavy alcohol use.

WHEN IS IT TIME TO TRANSPLANT

WEBINAR:

TBD

5:30pm to 6:30pm PDT

Liver disease is often silent and difficult to detect until it is too late. However, some liver diseases have noticeable symptoms such as in Hepatitis A. Silent disease is more dangerous since it remains unnoticed for a long period of time. During this silent time, the disease is destroying the liver, and after reaching a certain threshold, the dame become irreversible. You may heard about Cirrhosis of the liver, which is the last stage of chronic hepatitis, Alcoholic liver damage, fatty liver and other liver diseases. At this stage there is not much left to do to save the patients except for transplantation. In this webinar our expert transplant surgeons will offer information about liver transplantation, the shortage of available donated livers, and living donor liver transplant. The week of April 23rd  is the National Pediatric Transplant Week. We will ask our expert pediatric liver surgeons to share their experience with us.
